Mayweather Jr. VS Guerro Press Conference

Roberto Guerrero, current WBC welterweight champion presented a locked gun box to a ticket agent when checking in at John F Kennedy Airport in New York, district attorney Richard Brown said.

Mr. Brown said the box contained an unloaded .40-calibre handgun and three unloaded magazines.

Guerrero was arrested on charges including criminal possession of a firearm and later released.

The gun was registered in California, where the boxer lives, but the authorities said it was not legal to carry in New York.

If the 30-year-old is convicted he faces up to four years in prison.

Guerrero’s representatives said he had flown back to Las Vegas where he will continue to train for a fight on May 4 against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Guerrero spoke on how all of his most recent fights leading to this match have prepared him physically and mentally. He has faced and warded off so many boxing styles he feels the timing of this fight is perfect. In the face-off piece Showtime produced to promote “MayDay”, Mayweather assures Guerrero , PPV viewers and fans who will be in attendance that he will fight whatever style Guerrero desires, simply putting all excuses to bed beforehand. Guerrero has proven he can slug, fight on the inside and outside, take a punch and do many things well. He doesn’t specialize in any one skill but has all the essential boxing attributes polished enough to call him a well-rounded boxer. There is a ” De La Hoya ” quality to this boxer that cannot be overlooked. A certain confidence I remember seeing in a hungry, younger De La Hoya. Guerrero understands the beast that is Mayweather , and that can be the first step in picking him apart. In Guerrero I see a determined boxer with a will to do the unthinkable. Cuba asked the champ about his wife’s recent victory over cancer and how it will inspire him in the ring. He stated , what his wife went thru to defeat cancer is the ultimate drive that pushes him day in and out. He stated “she is an inspiration because he saw her fight for her life, where as he is fighting for the love of the sport” her victory is far greater but serves as the greatest motivation for him to carry into the ring and potentially be the first to defeat Floyd “Money” Mayweather on “MayDay” this Cinco De Mayo at the MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada.
