DENISE MARIE DUFFIE, PLACEMENT ADVISER

The Buffalo News (Buffalo, NY) August 25, 1998 Denise Marie Duffie, a native of Buffalo, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday (Aug. 18, 1998) in her home in Norcross, Ga. She was 40.

After receiving a degree in retail management from Erie Community College, Ms. Duffie moved to Georgia in 1982 to become a placement adviser with the U.S. Education Corp.

Six years ago, she joined the Art Institute of Atlanta, helping students find part-time jobs.

“She talked to employers. She organized on-campus job fairs. She worked with 10 or 12 students every day,” said Debbie Rollins, graduate adviser at the Art Institute. “She was always reassuring to them.” “If she thought you needed something, she never waited for you to ask,” added her aunt, Marlene Boyd of Buffalo. see here art institute of atlanta go to web site art institute of atlanta

Ms. Duffie volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Atlanta Arts Festival. She enjoyed travel, and had toured Jamaica and much of the United States.

She also was an avid tennis player and she collected hand-carved wooden sculptures.

Survivors include her mother, Donna Duffie-Smith, and stepfather, Visol Smith, both of Sanford, N.C., and two stepbrothers, David V. Smith and Darren Henry, both of Greenville, S.C.

A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday in Saints Home Church of God in Christ, 323 Winspear Ave. Burial will be in Ridge Lawn Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
