The Austin City Council this week will proclaim March 11 as No Kill Day in Austin, Texas officially marking the one-year anniversary of the City Council’s approval of the successful No Kill Implementation Plan.

NO KILL DAY PROCLAMATION Thursday, March 8 9:30 a.m. Ceremony City Hall Council Chambers, 301 W. Second St.
The proclamation will be presented by Council Member Mike Martinez and Council Member Laura Morrison. Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith and Animal Advisory Commission Board Member Larry Tucker will accept the honor on behalf of the entire animal welfare community. The proclamation will recognize the members of the animal welfare community for their extraordinary work in helping Austin achieve a 90% animal save rate or higher, which constitutes a No Kill status.
The Animal Advisory Commission worked with the community to draft the Implementation Plan which was passed by Council on March 11, 2010. The No Kill Implementation Plan is a 37-point plan that serves to reduce animal intake and increase live animal outcomes at the city’s animal center. Since October 2010, the Animal Services Office and Austin Animal Center staff have been actively working on the plan along with its many partners such as Austin Pets Alive!, The Austin Humane Society, EmanciPet, Animal Trustees of Austin and dozens more organizations, and over 250 volunteers. this web site austin humane society
