REAL MADRID SOCCER TEAM STARTS TRAINING AT UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT LOS ANGELES website 405 freeway closure

US Fed News Service, Including US State News July 13, 2011 LOS ANGELES, July 12 — The University of California at Los Angeles issued the following press release:

Real Madrid, one of the world’s most popular soccer teams, started practicing today at UCLA’s North Athletic Field, as anxious fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the players lingered outside.

The team will practice at the field on most days until July 21.

All practices are closed to the public, including a possible practice on the afternoon of Sunday, July 17, during the 405 freeway closure. UCLA officials also may restrict access to campus roads if the closure creates traffic gridlock.

Real Madrid team members include some of the biggest names in soccer. Forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the highest paid soccer player, midfielder Kaka and defender Sergio Ramos took part in the team’s first practice.

UCLA’s pristine fields and top-notch athletic facilities have become a destination for European soccer teams since English club Chelsea trained at UCLA in 2005. Real Madrid trained at UCLA last summer. 405freewayclosure.net 405 freeway closure

The Real Madrid visit is part of the team’s preseason tour, which will include games against the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 16 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Club Deportivo Guadalajara on July 20 in San Diego.
