FAMED LATIN MUSIC SHOWASE SERIES
‘BMI PRESENTS’ IS BACK WITH “VERANO ALTERNATIVO”
SET WREAK HAVOC DURING THE LATIN ALTERNATIVE MUSIC CONFERENCE
(LAMC)
Tuesday, July 8th, S.O.B's NYC.
SHOWCASE
TO FEATURE EMERGING BMI SONGWRITERS/ARTIST
MAREL, ORIGEN, LAPDANCE, TAXI AMARILLO AND ORGANIC ARMA
NEW YORK, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the U.S. performing
right organization, announces the return of its highly successful
Latin music showcase, BMI Presents. The 2008 series returns
with "Verano Alternativo" on Tuesday, July 8th,
feature performances by talented Alternative music acts, Marel,
Origen, LapDance Taxi Amarillo and organicArma at S.O.B's
(204 Varick Street, NYC). Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
The hipsters
set to attend the "Verano Alternativo"(Alternative
Summer) will experience a dangerously eclectic mix of hard-hitting,
cutting edge sounds from bi-lingual Latin rock artists. Acts
like experimental, bi-lingual pop rock band, organicArma the
progressive electronic music group with a distinct concept,
have set out to defy traditional expectations of Latin music.
LapDance, the five man new wave, indie electronic and retro
Brit-pop-sounding band, emerging from Puerto Rico's underground
rock scene, unlike a real LapDance - they don't lead you on,
however will leave you wanting more; the New York City-based
band, Taxi Amarillo (Yellow Taxi) delivers what they like
to call "Power Pop Rock"; South American triple
threat, Origen will sway the crowd with their punchy music
and Dominican-born Marel's eclectic style is in a league of
his own.
These
talented singer/songwriters embody authentic Latin Alternative
Rock. Each year, since it's inception in 2000, LAMC attracts
over 30,000 music lovers and industry leaders by exposing
the best of this increasingly popular musical genre.
"Latin
music is one of the greatest success stories in the music
business for the past six years.," said Porfirio Piña,
BMI's Senior Director, Writer / Publisher Relations - Latin.
BMI songwriter, Grammy award winning rocker, Juanes, was the
first Latino to ever sell six million singles on-line. Shakira
sold forty millions records worldwide. Latin Alternative music
sales are clearly on the rise. Last summer, rocker Alejandra
Alberti was a featured 'BMI Presents' showcase artist, and
a few months later, she was accepting a Latin Grammy nomination
for "Best New Artist." The 'BMI Presents' Latin
music showcase series has given birth to several success stories
and will continue to highlight talented singer/ songwriters
who are poised to shape the industry for generations.
BMI Presents:
Verano Alternativo is sponsored by Cyloop.com, Gibson, El
Especialito & El Especial Newspapers, LaMusica.com, NocheLatina.com,
myspacelatino.com, Divino Magazine and The Latin Recording
Academy (LARAS).

Origen
(www.myspace.com/origenweb)
Three
Venezuelans, an Ecuadorian, and a Mexican walk into
a bar... but this is no joke. This is Origen. They are
here to make you the newest member of their “familia”.
Origen’s family is as diverse as the band members
themselves. You’ll fit right in if you enjoy hard
driving catchy rock songs, mid tempo groovy sing-a-longs,
or slow jams of stadium proportions. Origen’s
music has one common point of origin: infectious pop.
The
rhythmic roots of “la familia” are anchored
by Tonio on drums, and driven deep by Ruben on bass.
This solid foundation is built on by Hector on guitar
and Carlos ..boards. The matriarch of the family is
Mirs, in the front and center lead vocals position.
However, this family is multi-talented. Don’t
be surprised if Carlos or Mirs pick up a guitar, or
Tonio jumps on the congas for a more acoustic experience.
Whether you catch them “en vivo” at an intimate
South Beach venue or playing for thousands, you’ll
recognize the subtle influences of U2, Bon Jovi, Guns-N-Roses,
and Coldplay, right along those of Maná,Soda
Stereo, King Chango, and Ricardo Arjona.
With
full family benefits, you too can join the fun. Origen’s
fan “familia” is an active part of their
shows, singing every word of their songs, dancing, and
celebrating their individual cultural heritage as well
as their common goals and experiences. After all, what
else is “familia” all about?Three Venezuelans,
an Ecuadorian, and a Mexican walk into a bar…
and they are here to rock your pants off!

Lapdance
(www.myspace.com/lapdancemusic)
Forming in 2006, Lapdance has
become an emerging band from the underground scene
in San Juan, Puerto Rico. What started out as an act
of love for the five-piece has become a clear obsession.
Since then, with it's members working night shifts
to barely afford themselves, the committed band continues
to bring energetic performances to clubs and college
campuses. The five friends have a great time connecting
on stage with its audiences. Having only produced
a 3 song home demo, Lapdance have reached a lot of
international attention. So far, in their short career,
the band has played and toured with several local
and international artists such as Circo, Beto Cuevas
(La Ley), Vinyl, Bohemia Suburbana, Jumbo, from Latin
America among other local acts. They also have been
invited to play in international fests hosted by some
prestigious brands such as Heineken, Scion, and Medalla.
The five-some also shot an ad with Heineken and Scion
introducing their single “Mala Postura en NY”
to the TV audience and local radio. Lapdance influences
are a diverse array of great artists and songwriters,
from the Beatles to Kraftwerk, Television to Zoe,
the whole Britpop movement to La Lupe.

OrganicArma
(www.myspace.com/organicarma)
OrganicArma
“dhArma111,” (baterista y vocalista) “lhArma,”
(teclado y vocalista) y “phAxas” (sampler,
poder nuestra propia originalidad.
y primer álbum “Under Duality 0.1”,
organicArma
